Well, I held out for a month, but I now have a nice MS optical mouse, with two buttons and a scroll wheel, plugged into this computer. I've grabbed the beta of USB Overdrive to make it left-handed, and I'm a happy bunny. It's not as beautiful as the Apple Pro mouse, but it works.
I've also downloaded a trial of StickyBrain, as recommended by Avram Grumer. But I'm an inherently cheap soul, and $40 feels like a lot for a sticky program. So it's only got a month to become indispensable.
